Building on her experience managing health and safety for the opening, closing and victory ceremonies for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Janet is recognized as one of Canada’s leading experts in health and safety for the arts.
Before opening her own consultancy, Janet spent nine years pioneering a health and safety program for the Stratford Festival. This program is now recognized as the “gold standard” for theatres across Canada.
She’s also consulted for Safe Stages (Alberta) and Play It Safe - A Safety Manual for School Theatres/Studios (British Columbia), and serves as a volunteer member for:
Prior to moving into the health and safety field, Janet spent 14 years as a working stage manager. Her resume includes over 30 productions at the prestigious Stratford Festival, and many others for theatres across Canada.
Having been both a Worker and Management member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee, she is equally comfortable advocating for workers and guiding employers.
Her experience helps her understand where you are coming from, and her expertise helps you to get where you need to go.
Working together begins with a free consultation with me to find out what you want and need. Depending on the project, this may begin with a site visit and a look at your current health and safety program.
Once we’ve agreed on the details, you receive a proposal describing the scope, approach, timeline and fees (based on either a daily rate or an hourly rate), including any expenses such as travel.
If you prefer to do some or all of the work yourself, I can arrange to advise and review the final documents. Either way, I’ll work with you to create practical policies and procedures to keep your people safe.
